AMA Supercross – Seattle, WA
After heavy rains the day and night before the race the track was extremely wet and soft. While the course looked fine as the first heat races blasted off the gate it wouldn’t take long for brutal ruts to develop and begin consuming riders. Craig was in heat one and it didn’t start well. He tangled with another rider in the first turn and had to start from the back of the pack. He rode well and charged up to sixth, giving him a decent pick for the main event.
Seely was in heat two and his luck wasn’t much better. After getting a good start the heat was red-flagged due to a downed rider. On the restart Cole was way back and a crash on the opening lap would put him even further back. From sixteenth Seely clawed his way to sixth at the finish.
In the main event Cole Seely did not get the start he needed to compete for the win. But after finding himself marred in the back of the pack, Seely grabbed a handful of throttle and took off for the front. He sliced through traffic for fifteen laps and by the time the white flag flew he was hounding the rider in third place and trying to find a way onto the podium. Cole simply ran out of time and finished fourth but he left no doubt about his speed by logging the quickest laps of the race in the last five laps.
Christian started well, beginning the race in second place, but he struggled to get comfortable in the soft, rutted conditions. He dropped to ninth in the early laps and then a crash would relegate him to twelfth at the finish.
The Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda squad now moves southeast for the penultimate round in Salt Lake City. With two rounds left to race the team has one thing on their minds: Winning. Seely proved he has the speed and Craig showed he can get the start he needs to get. Can they put it together? I wouldn’t bet against them.
